Official Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V., commonly known as Club America or América, is a professional football club operating in Mexico City, Mexico. The club has earned the nickname of Las Águilas (The Eagles, Los Azul-Cremas (The Blue-Creams) and Los Millonetas (The Millionaires).
It competes in Liga MX which is amongst the top tier of Mexican football leagues.
This club was founded in 1916 and ever since 1959 media company Grupo Televisa has been the owner of the team which plays at the home ground of Estadio Azteca. The stadium for the team is the largest in Mexico and Latin America, besides being the seventh-largest association football-specific stadiums of the world.
The club has shared its home ground stadium with the Mexico national football team since its inauguration. Other club to have used the stadium as their home at different times, namely Necaxa (1966–70 and 1982–2003), Atlante (1966–82, 1996–2001 and 2004–2007), Universidad Nacional (1967–1969), Atlético Español (1970–1982) and Cruz Azul (1971–1996).

The club has won a record thirteen league titles along with the record six Copa México titles, and six Campeón de Campeones cups. In international competitions, the club has won ten FIFA recognized club trophies which are the most for a club from the CONCACAF region.
It has won a record seven CONCACAF Champions Cup/Champions League titles, two Copa Interamericana cups, and one CONCACAF Giants Cup.
The rivalry between Club America and Club Universidad Nacional is popular as the “Clásico Capitalino”. The reason being both teams are based in Mexico City—the country’s capital.
The club has been the most successful and popular club in the country which has a rivalry in Guadalajara. Both of these clubs have been the only ones never been demoted to the second division. The matches organized between these two clubs are known as El Súper Clásico. These matches are most watched for being the biggest rivalry game in Mexico and one of the biggest championship fights in the world.

Mexican pollster Consulta Mitofsky conducted a poll in February 2015 and América turned out to be the most popular football club with 31.1 percent in favor and the most hated with 41.5 percent votes.
EuroAmericas Sports Marketing conducted a study according to which, América is the most popular Mexican club in Asia and the third most popular from the Americas after Corinthians of Brazil and Boca Juniors of Argentina.
Having earned the reputation of the most-hated club in the country, the club has been bestowed by its fans and country people with the phrase “Ódiame Más” (English- Hate me more). This is also one of the unofficial slogans of the team.
The club has the highest attendance numbers in Mexico and the eighth-most in the world.
Presidential history of the club
The club was established in 1916, and since then América has had 27 club presidents.
The list begins with –
1. Florencio Domínguez served from 1916 to 1920.
2. Guillermo Cañedo de la Bácerna- He was the club’s longest-serving president who served from 1961 to 1981.
3. Filiberto Zapata had been the president to serve the shortest term in the club’s history. He served less than a year – in 1940.
4. In 1951, actor and comedian Cantinflas was named Honorary President of the Club.
5. The current sporting president is Santiago Baños.

Club America marked its 102nd year of existence last year. And has never disappointed as being a top club of Mexico city. The club is tied with Chivas for the most titles in Liga MX history.
